The Story Behind This Biblical Christian Baby Name
There is one very brief mention of this name in the book of
Nehemiah. A man named Jadon from a place called Merenoth helped to
rebuild the walls and gates of Jerusalem.
The city of Jerusalem was the holy city to the Jewish people, and this
was a big deal, repairing the defenses and
revitalizing this place central to the sacrificial system and holy
celebrations of their religious beliefs and political identity as a
nation.
Although Nehemiah gets a lot of the fame for this rebuilding of
the walls of Jerusalem, there were many people who were a part of this
grand and dangerous project.
They faced much opposition, and the violence threatened against them
was enough that half of them would stand guard with weapons at the
ready while the other half did the building work. Even the construction
workers kept a sword in their belts at all times, just in case.
Every person involved in this construction effort is a hero, including Jadon the Merenothite.

I Chad Jordon called on Enos Jordon's Naturalization Papers on May 1st 2008 after learning of it's existence via the internet.

I called to see if they could find it, and they did!
On May 2nd 2008 I Chad Jordon went to "Records Storage & Archives" located in the Warren County Municipal Center, in
Lake George, New York.
I picked up a copy of Enos Jordon's Naturalization Papers, and it has his signature on it.
Enos Jordon applied for Naturalization on 10/11/1844 in Warren County, New York
Enos signed his name
"Enos Jordon"
NOTE: the surname was spelled with a "don" and NOT a "dan"
It states that he was born in the "Lower Providence of Canada"
The "Lower Providence of Canada" is modern day (Quebec)
The "Lower Providence of Canada" back then it consisted of part of the former French colony of New France, which was populated mainly by French Canadians,
which was ceded to Great Britain.

Enos put in for Naturalization Papers on 10/11/1844 in Warren County, New York.

The person who written up his Naturalization Papers is the one who spelled it "Jourden"
This is a clerical error that happened allot before name standardization. This can cause much confusion, and doubt for a researcher.
It has been passed down orally to Earnest and his Wife Inza Jordon (maiden name Wells)
That Charles Jordon's father stated that his Father was from Canada. Charles Father is Enos Jordon
We have been able to validate this with documentation from Enos's Naturalization Papers.
French women in Canada, and France did not take the husbands surname, they kept their maiden name after they were married.
When they came to America they adopted many customs of America to blend in, such as women taken their husbands surname, and
changing the spelling of the surname from it's French variant to Americanize themselves.
Surnames often times had many different forms, because there was no name standardization years ago.
This means that a given name or a surname could be open for interpretation on how it was to be spelled.
At this point we do not know where Anthony & his Wife Eliza are buried.
We think that they are possibly buried somewhere in the Catholic Cemetery on the vineyard Road, with no headstones or destroyed headstones.
We feel this is a strong possibility because Anthony lived with Moses & his daughter Mary Wells / Jarvis which was on Street Road.
That is also where Moses & Mary are buried.
Street Road was a inhabited by the French who migrated from Quebec, Canada.
On October 28 2009 Chad Jordon finally found the where Anthony, and his son Enos were from.
They were both born in Quebec, Canada along the Richelieu River.
From there I was able to trace the family lines back to France with the help of the "PRDH"
Religion & Occupation
1. The Family has been, and is still mostly "Roman Catholic" which is what the early settlers of Canada were.
2. The description of their jobs fits the location of their jobs, and the timeline.
Their Jobs were "agriculture" (Farming)
"Boatmen" (One who works on, deals with, or operates boats.) who worked on the canal's
"Laborers" commonly spelled (Labourer) in old documentation (built the canals) (farm hands) general labor.
Enos Jordon was a "Laborer" which often times meant (farm hands) according to the 1850 Census.
Charles Jordon was a Laborer (farm hands) according to his death certificate.
Charles Jordon was a Boatman according to his 1880 census record.
Riley Jordon was a Laborer Graphite Mines according to his 1910 census record. He was a Laborer 1930.
Most that are alive today know that Pa (Riley Jordon) raised his kids on "Jordon's Farm" in Hague, New York.
We know that Pa did farming, and so did his kids at least until they were old enough to go out on their own.
With this in mind it seems logical to believe that they must have work in, on, and around the St. Lawrence sea way, Richelieu River, and Lake Champlain.
Most of them were all farmers even my Grandfather (Arthur Jordon) did farming growing up, and so did his father Pa, and
his father Charles was a Laborer, which meant farming, we know this from eye witness's such as Arthur Jordon who is (Charles grandson),
Inza Jordon (Maiden Name Wells) and Kate Hunter a long time friend of the family.
Enos was a Laborer who had done farming.
Enos's Son Walter was a Boatman, Enos's brother David was a Boatman as well.
Charles was a Boatman according to the 1880 census.
Some of them may have even helped build the canals around St. Lawrence sea way.
They certainly worked very close to water at the very least for agricultural, and transport reasons.
So it would make sense they lived close to the water because the water was the main mode of travel back then, which was before the the Railroad was built 1840's
The Richelieu River was the highway of transportation especially over long distances.

We find this in the old French records that Claude as been to many places in France, such as:

Anthony, and Enos both came from St-Luc Quebec, Canada.
They came into Saint Albans, Vermont sometime before the 1820 census, and sometime after the birth of
Mary Jordon who was born "M Julie DeJadon" she was born in 1819 in St-Luc Quebec, Canada.
We then see Anthony, and his family in Saint Albans the next year in the 1820 Franklin County, VT census.
This gives us a one year window of when they may have crossed the boarder into Vermont.
Anthony was not in the 1810 Franklin County, VT census.
Vermont to Ticonderoga, New York Crossing Timeline:
The Jordon family moved from Fairfield, Vermont, to Ticonderoga, New York about 1839.
We come to this conclusion by Enos's Naturalization papers which were registered in 1844 in Warren County NY, it states that Enos was here in New York for five years.
So Anthony must have moved here right after the 1830 Franklin County Fairfield, Vermont census, and then end up in the 1840 Ticonderoga, New York's census.
He had a family in Franklin County, Vermont for about 30 years.

We see Anthony in the 1840 census in Ticonderoga as well as in Vermont at the same time. New York must have the their census right after they moved to New York.
For him to show up in two census records.
We see that he has a large family living with him at this point of time.
1 Male between the ages of 50, and 60. This has to be Anthony
1 female, between the ages of 40 and 50 years of age. This as to be Eliza

It shows him having 2 boys between the ages of 5 and 10 years old.

This gives a grand total of 13 kids living with him in1840.
We also see him in the 1850, 1860, and the 1870's census records.
Some of the Family remain in Ticonderoga to this very day.
Many families came from Canada into Vermont, in the early 1800's One particular family is the Wells / Javasis / Gervasis family.
It seems that they may have met, and then traveled down the Richelieu River together, which would have been the main mode of transportation back then
into Franklin County Vermont.
Then they came into Ticonderoga, New York in 1840 both families came to Ticonderoga, New York.
Anthony living with a "Moses & Mary Wells" It turns out that Mary is Anthony's daughter.
In the Ticonderoga, New York 1870 Census, and it says that they are from Canada as well, except for Mary.
Moses Wells original surname was "Gervasis" or (Jarvis) he came from "Sorel" Lower Canada (Quebec)
So what we are seeing is a Migration of at least of two families out of Canada into Vermont, and then into Ticonderoga, New York
"Moses & Matilda Wells" are buried in the St. Mary's Cemetery in the far back right side as you walk in.
The older Moses Wells. Moses was married to Mary Jordon who was the daughter of Anthony who was living with them in the 1870 census at the end of his life.
Moses Wells / Javasis / Gervasis came from Sorel Canada.
There reasons for leaving Quebec and into Vermont was due to the British ruling their Homeland, and ruining their crops, and their way of life.

Genealogists have a tax initiative to thank for the Armorial général de France. In 1696 in an effort to raise money, Louis XIV issued an edict
requiring all who had armorial bearings to register them and pay an accompanying fee.
In some cases, those who could afford to pay but had no arms would be granted—or even assigned—arms and charged.
Both the noble and the common could bear arms, as could cities (communes) and other organizations.
The work of collecting the information and establishing an official record of French arms fell to Charles-René d'Hozier,
who documented descriptions of the various arms in 35 volumes that make up the Armorial général de France.
The collection (now in the Bibliothèque nationale de France) features nearly 130,000 colored armorial bearings compiled
by d'Hozier between 1696 and 1709 and documents three types: those for (1) individuals or families, (2) cities, and (3) occupations, corporations, or religious orders.
Family names have been indexed for over 115,000 of the armorial bearings and can be searched. The majority of French surnames, over 57,000, may be found in the collection.
This is the first time this armorial collection has been indexed and made searchable online by family name. The images may also be browsed by province or subdivision.
While the collection is not a complete encyclopedia of French arms, it is still a useful source of information on old noble French families.

I Chad Jordon recently have found an older crest that is in the direct line of decent.

There is an older version that does not seem to be in the direct line of decent. It is the same as the one directly above
however the bottom is more rounded, and oval shape.
Whereas the one just above is more bell shaped.

The family came from France to the Providence of Lower Canada, or East Canada which is now known as "Quebec" Canada
they later migrated from St Luc, Quebec, Canada down the Richelieu River to Saint Albans, and then
Fairfield, Vermont, they moved just before 1840 to Ticonderoga, New York.
St Luc is 50 miles north of St Albans, Vermont. Where we later see Anthony, and his family in the 1820 census.
This time frame was before roads, and railroads.
They always stayed close to the water for good reasons.
Quebec was heavily populated with French speaking people.
It was passed down orally to Earnest, and Inza Jordon (Maiden name Wells) that Enos Jordon came from Canada.
Nnow we have the documentation to prove it.
We also have an eye witness account by Kate Hunter, who is 101 years old, (as of 2008) she states that Charles had a French accent.

Enos, Harry, and Anthony Jr. at different points in census records all claim that they were born in Vermont at 1814

Three Jordan men all claiming the same birth years at different times in their live, this is quite unique to say the least!
We now have the birth records of Enos, and Anthony Jr. so it stands to reason that Harry or possibly Henry was also born in Canada they migrated with their father Anthony to St Albans Vermont at about 1819.
We know this because we see Anthony in the 1820 Vermont Fairfield County census record. Anthony's daughter Eliza Jordan was born in 1818 with the name Louise.
These three men have always showed many different places of birth, and different years of birth.
It seems very clear that they were trying to repress their origins so that they could blend into the melting pot of America. No doubt to escape the repressive British that invaded Lower Canada, and instilled martial law.
Enos Naturalization Letter of Intent states he was born in Lower Providence of Canada which is modern day Quebec.
Anthony Jr. was born in Canada,
Harry's (possibly Henry) daughter in one census states her father is from Canada.
Eliza / Louise was born in Canada.
Mary, the Drouin Collection, and everyone on Ancestry.com states she was born in Canada.
The early Jordon family were certainly not loyalist to the crown, and that certainly put them at odds with the British who were infiltrating Canada in that era.
Perhaps that's why we all have a little bit of rebel in us, and perhaps that's why we can't stand to see an injustice happen.
Not to mention the fact that we hate to see an out of control government!
NOTE:
Many documents contradict others documents, it seems very evident that great lengths were taken to not have any
birth, death, baptisms, or marriages record where Enos was really born from.
Each record states something different, but since finding his Naturalization papers it is clear why.
It's not like the family didn't know where he was born because it was passed down orally.

Anthony Jr. Jordon Born 1814 in Chambly, Quebec Most records claim Anthony Jr was born in Vermont, however his birth record that we found in Quebec that has him linked with his parents, and other siblings clearly shows that this generation wanted to sever their ties to Canada. His last name is recorded as "Dyadon" Again Yadon is a Hebrew name found only once in the Bible in Nehemiah 3:7 The letter "Y" was used before the letter "J" came into existence. The letter "J" later replaced the latter "Y" For centuries the letter "J" had the same pronunciation as the letter "Y" We see him in the 1870, and 1880 census in Illinois Children??  (Child unknown at the time) Moses left, and Mary Right  On 6-15-11 my wife & I visited our local Ticonderoga town hall to see if we could obtain more info on Mary's death certificate. Much to our surprise it's riddled with errors. For one thing it said she was single, her headstone proves she was still married to Moses Wells, and her obituary proves this also. The second thing is, it states her maiden name was Jordon, but had has her parents are listed as Anthony & Elizabeth Jarvis. Which is clearly Anthony & Eliza Jordon! Because no where in any records from NY, VT, to Canada do we see a Anthony Jarvis nor do we see a Eliza Jarvis, and certainly no couple with that name. Furthermore her maiden name proves that her parents surnames were indeed Jordon Her death certificate, and should have read Anthony & Elizabeth Jordon. Mary Jordon born 1817-1896 Mary Jordon Married Moses Gervais (Wells) dit Rivard who was born February 20 1814 in St-Pierre Sorel, Quebec Canada. He was naturalized in 1827 Both Mary & Moses are buried on the Vineyard Cemetery, its an old Catholic cemetery. It is believed that those who are buried there were not baptized. After much study I came to the conclusion that they were all baptized, just not in America which means they had no witnesses to prove that they were. As all that are buried there seems to be of Catholic faith, and came from other Countries. My Grandfather Arthur Jordon, and Inza Jordon, and Kate Hunter (a friend of the family) all tell us that Charles Augustus Jordon
could dance, play the fiddle, and the mouth organ (Harmonica) like no one else.
All say that he was a very talented musician.
The 1880 census says that Charles was a Boatman, the rest of the census records state he was a laborer.
His death certificate also states he was a Day Laborer.
